Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Huddled together, giving each other support, these are some of the children in my preschool class as they get ready for graduation. It always amazes me to watch them grow and develop. I teach in a large New York City school. The children come from varied cultural and economic backgrounds. For most of my students, this is their first school experience. They are fearful upon entering the classroom for the first time. The growth academically, socially and emotionally that takes place by the end of the year in each child is astonishing!

They develop a sense of community and a love for learning.

They become cheerleaders for their classmates and themselves. Having developed a love for learning and a respect for others and their differences lay the foundation for the rest of their educational careers. While I am sad to see them go I am excited about the journey that each will be taking.

My Project

Centers will have to be modified in September. Great consideration needs to be given to keeping the children and their families safe. Children will be taught to social distance and items in the class will be sanitized after each use. How can children share play-dough or play in the sand table without spreading germs. How do you clean and sanitize these materials after each use? I came up with a solution!!!!!

I will be creating individualized sand and play-dough centers for each child because I will not allow the coronavirus to deny the children of these activities.

The kinetic sand will be divided into eighteen Sterilite containers with lids and be labeled with a child's name. The colorful trays I ordered will be used for when the students play with play-dough. I ordered tools for each child as well.

Individualizing these centers makes them workable during social distancing. Minimal cleanup makes them doable. I am so excited about being able to provide the children with these centers. If schools are unable to open in September these centers can be delivered the the homes of each child. Thank you for making these centers available to the children by donating to my project!!
