My students are classified as special education students. They are classified with different disabilities, most prominent speech, learning disabled, and language difficulty. Many of the students who attend the school live in homeless shelters. More than three-quarters of my students are from low-income households and these students qualify for free or reduced-price lunches. The school also provides uniforms, food, and various other supplies to the students who are housed in homeless shelters. My school is made up of 47% English language learners.
My students are low-level readers but have a great passion for books, a passion for learning, and they try really hard despite their disabilities.
The students in my class come from all cultures such as Ghana, Puerto Rico, and America. My students smile every day and are eager to learn new things. They like to use their fine motor skills to create and construct things.
Despite my students' disabilities, I push them hard to come close to grade level in the content area. I always tell my students a disability is a condition; it doesn't define who you are. With that being said, I have high expectations for my students.
Since Covid students social emotional well being has been my number one priority also school wide.
These Mood and Emotion puzzles would allow students to identify how they are feeling in a critical thinking and hand on way.
Also puzzle teaches students that each piece is a fraction of the bigger picture. Puzzle also helps develop the basic skills such as concentration, goal setting, patience and a sense of achievement. Puzzle also help students with disabilities with finger strength and hand and eye coordination. Students can work on all these skills as well as tapping into their emotions.
