My Students

I currently teach kindergarten students at a small town elementary school in South Carolina. My kindergarten kids come from a variety of different economic backgrounds, and despite their obstacles, come to school full of life and ready to learn! My students are energetic , curious, and love to wiggle. Their little bodies are in constant motion which can be challenging in the typical classroom environment. My hope is that flexible seating will give my kindergarten kids the opportunity to wiggle and move in comfortable seating that meets their learning needs. Then my students can be truly engaged and focused learners.

My Project

Traditional seating in kindergarten classrooms do not offer enough movement to optimize student learning. When young children have flexible seating they can move without distracting others. With big pillows my kindergarten kids will be comfy and cozy will reading books. The pillows can be moved around the room for Buddy Reading and Writer's Workshop. When my students sit on Wobble Chairs, they can bounce and move their bodies while writing at tables or working on the computer! Wobble chairs will allow my kindergarten students to improve their learning by letting their bodies be active but they remain in one spot. Having different seating options will help my kindergarten kids stay on task for a variety of activities. These options will help my young students stay engaged and focused.
