My Students

My school is very rural and very high poverty. My students are technologically advanced, but only because our teachers put emphasis on twenty-first century skills. Teaching junior high and high school students is one of the greatest privileges I've had in my life to date. I love spending time with them, helping them learn and watching them be successful. Some parts of that process can be a lot easier when you have the right supplies! I have had DonorsChoose.org projects completed and every one of them has made a lasting difference in my students. My Project

I have used the same book for the eighth graders to start the year for the last eight years. I still want to teach the evolving Hero's Journey, but I want a new book that is more relevant than ever. The book, "Ready Player One", is full of timely references to things that my students are dealing with: climate change, technology and virtual reality.

This book has a special place in my heart.

It describes the birth of technology in the 1980's, which is something I lived through, but my students haven't got to see. They were born in the age of Smartphones and laptops and this allows me to show them how far society has come, but also the dangers of this fast-paced life.
