I work in Chicago on the south side. My school is predominantly minority and low income. There is a range of academic levels within my room from those 1 to 2 grade levels below to those who are 1 to 2 levels above grade level. My students have technology and have access to Chromebooks daily. They love this time to explore reading texts on line as well as doing math. We have a program that my students get on daily where it teaches them a particular skill by having different characters come on and explain what they will learn today.
We also utilize a math program that my students love that helps them to build math fluency skills in-between playing games.
The students get so excited and love this time.
My students need headphones so that they can focus on what is being taught to them and not get distracted by the noise from everyone chrome book going off at the same time. This will help me as well to be able to work with small groups. This will help my students so much by helping them stay on task.
My students will be able to listen to stories being read to them. This will give access to students who may struggle with reading. This will help students with their comprehension skills. The reading program also teaches skills to help on standardized test by exposing them to vocabulary. Students will be able to listen to demonstrations about how to do math problems. Students can also use for math program to help with fluency by playing games. Students will become fluent in multiplication and division which will help when they do fractions. It will assist me with being able to do small groups because it won't be the noise of all the other computers going off at the same time.
