My Project

Dear Family, Friends, and Education Community,

For the first time in my career, I will have my own classroom as a special education teacher, and will mostly teach students in the middle school grades.

As their special education teacher (referred to as “resource teacher”), I am responsible for providing explicit and individualized instruction in order to help them learn, absorb, and reproduce the content in their classes. The essential materials, such as markers, pens, pencils, varieties of paper, extra headphones, learning posters, and manipulative items (e.g., paper money) are crucial for my classroom. As a resource teacher, I create individualized educational plans for each student, which include personalized learning goals, accommodations, and supports. Having items like binders, folders, white-out, tape, a laminator, paper shredder, and organizational bins allow to me to do this efficiently and effectively. Lastly, I take personal responsibility in teaching my students the skills they will need to have a successful, independent, and healthy life. To give some examples, I teach lessons on applying for jobs, what it means to have perspective and empathy, and how to effectively and appropriately communicate with peers and adults.

I am writing this letter in hopes for donations of items and materials to help me build an inclusive, safe, and education-focused environment for all students that enter my classroom. When students feel heard and cared for, they give us the best version of themselves. That's why it's so important to me to have the basic items they might need to do well in school that day, such as snacks, calming fidgets, or a loving place to go. Any contribution is greatly appreciated by me and my students.
