My Project

My kindergarteners are very excited to explore and learn about their Bengali language and culture. However, to fulfill their excitement with literacy rich experiences in both languages to be bilingual, and to go more in depth into our new dual language program, our class needs your help!

This year, one of our program goals is to create a literacy rich learning environment to be exposed to more bilingual books in Bengali and English to help develop students’ reading, writing, and vocabulary skills in both languages.

The selected bilingual story, alphabet, and rhyming books will be placed in our colorful multicultural classroom library where my students love to hear me read aloud to them every day to interact and to develop literacy skills in both languages. My classroom library is a place where my students really enjoy spending time with their groups and during independent reading time to read and explore their curiosity about the new language they are exposed to. Adding those bilingual books in our class library will help develop their independent reading skills in their own grade level through exploring vocabulary words, rhymes, and pictures and story books in different genres in both languages. The writing materials will go to the writing center for each student to practice and develop their writing skills during independent and small group activities.

Every student's book that is placed in my library is treated with love and care. With helpful donors like you, my students will be thankful for the opportunities to read more bilingual books in Bangla and English.
