My Students

"How is this class?" said student one. Student two says, "It's great!" This puts a smile on my face and makes me realize I'm doing my job and fulfilling my passion. 3D art has been my passion for the last 25 years and I love to share my passion with my students. One form of 3D art is working with found objects, such as pillowcases. Using these pillowcases, acrylic paints, and paintbrushes, students will investigate surrealism and depict a dream-like environment or safe space. Giving students the creative freedom to explore their conscious and unconscious states is something that I can only accomplish with your support!

The students at MJH are creative, respectful and ready to share their talents with the world.

I would like to have the opportunity to give the students the appreciation of surrealism by having them creatively depict their dream on a pillowcase.

My Project

The students will use self-expression through reflection of their personal dreams while studying the history of surrealist artists. At this age, students are immensely critical of their own work, and including their “unconscious mind” into it will only better them. In the unconscious mind, there are no limitations for students, and this will give them the chance to truly express themselves in their work.

Dreams and reality are placed onto a pillow to depict our unconscious mind.

Understanding the connection between the unconscious and conscious states of mind is something that students often overlook, and allowing them to make this connection will broaden their perception of the world around them.

Painting techniques do not come naturally for adolescents. Teaching students the color wheel, blending, mixing and paint application allows them to build another artistic avenue in their development of future medium choices.
