My Body Engine Needs Tools

My Students

I have the privilege of teaching students with Autism Spectrum Disorders. My partner teacher teaches students with moderate intellectual delays. Together we serve 20 students ranging in age from 15 to 21.

My students are hopeful and full of promise despite the challenges that they face.

I could not see myself working with any other students.

My class is in a large high school with a culturally and racially diverse population of 2300 students. We serve the third largest municipality in the state of South Carolina. Despite our large number this school is extremely inclusive and supportive of all types of kids.

My Project

Student's with Autism Spectrum Disorders experience a variety of sensory issues that effect their ability to learn. If their body "engine" is running high they could use a Albilitations Dynamic Movement Bodysox or Calmforter Weighted Blanketto help bring their "engine" back down to idle. The Sensory Moon Bubble Tube and Fiber Optic Sensory curtain creates a calm environment where students can spend time and use self soothing techniques to bring their bodies back to a state that is conducive for leaning. If a student's body "engine" is running to low they need to use physical movement or swinging to help raise their "engine" up to idle. When a student's body "engine" is idling at the right speed they have a greater chance of learning new material, feeling good and doing their personal best! These tools will help the kids feel great!
