My Students

My 7th grade middle school students are from urban, rural, and suburban areas. Our students filter into middle school from three schools. We spend some time getting to know each other so we can become a community of learners. I have language arts and social studies classes that have a wide-range of learners. Some students may be in our gifted program, learning support program, or life skills program. However, I find that all students enjoy using technology. Sharing technology and learning from each other helps us bond together as a class.

My Project

Every school year one of my top priorities is to help all students develop a life-long passion for reading. Sadly, every year it seems to get more difficult to get students' interest. I have a large library in my room. I know that even the most reluctant reader cannot resist the annual Guinness Book of World Records. I tried to choose topics and books that I know will interest those students who claim to "hate" reading because it is boring. At our last book fair, many students asked for Fort Nite books so I know these books will be a big hit. Pop-up books about animals and places are also popular with struggling readers. I also picked some books that will connect with our curriculum. Students often ask for Tupac's poetry book The Rose That Grew From Concrete and sports biographies.I know that this list of book will be irresistible to all students.
