This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Making music is always fun but making music in a warm, happy space is even better. After years without a music room, our school is finally going to have one but the damaged floor needs to be covered by a rug.

My students are the most amazing K-8 children in New Jersey.

They live in a high poverty community and are mostly Hispanic and African American. Although they go to a school with limited resources, they greet each day with enthusiasm and an eagerness to learn.

My Project

If we get this beautiful music rug, the 600 students I see every week will have the opportunity to be in a music room that feels cozy and warm. The rug has a gorgeous image of a grand staff with a treble and bass clef and has a border that consists of musical vocabulary. The images on the rug will expose them to notation and terminology that will help them become better musicians.

If you choose to donate to this project, you will be adding to the sense of warmth and feeling of safety in the music room.

Encouraging a love of music encourages a love of self. The confidence that students can achieve in music class can impact the rest of their lives.
