Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The materials for this endeavor are not easily available to public school teachers and are vital for our Musical Trading Cards project. Students will have short interview sheets to fill out, connecting with adults in the school (their various teachers; administrators, lunch room staff, office staff) as well as, and especially, adults at home (parents, older siblings, grandparents, close friends of the family). They will gather information on other people's favorite musical artists in order to create musical trading cards. These cards will be printed in varying quantities, thus ensuring that some are considered "more valuable" than others. The value, of course, will be in the personal connections that are created while doing this project.

The connection between students and the older generations that care for them will be deepened as the conversations about favorite musicians happen.

It seems inevitable that younger generations think lightly, if at all, about the music that inspired the adults in their life. Those adults most likely acted in a similar manner with their own adults years back.

With this project, conversations will be had and bonds will be strengthened. As a music teacher, it's important for my students to realize that there is a vast, almost limitless world of music that they haven't experienced yet. With this project, their eyes will be opened to the predecessors to the music they currently love, as well as the connections that the adults around them have made. It will also deeply affect all the adults that are asked by a student to have this conversation. The different quantity of cards will take into account those that are printed, in order to be gifted to those adults, as well as create a "trading economy" for the entire series.
