My Students

At our inclusive elementary school, ALL means ALL! We strive to teach our students to value their individuality. Our motto is "every child gets what they need to succeed!" We want our students to advocate for themselves and utilize the things that make them successful learners.

Our classrooms include a very diverse group of learners including students from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds, students who are learning English as a second language, students with a diverse span of disabilities and gifted students, all of our students learn together all of the time.

They are incredibly compassionate, hard working, kind spirited, incredible kids. Each and every single one of them.

My Project

To meet the needs of our incredible group of students, it is essential that we provide options to help them successfully access their learning environment. Some students are sensitive to noise, others need to make noise, some students need to move to attend, while others like to sit quietly. My students need 25 MP3 players with headphones and 12 ball chairs. Providing students with the option to listen to soothing music while they work or to sit on a ball chair in lieu of a typical classroom chair, will provide students with the accommodations that will help them become successful within their classroom. Instead of feeling the need to stand up and move around, students will use a ball chair to get their "wiggles" out. Instead of being distracted by nearby sounds, students will be able to "get in the zone" to attend to their work and focus. They will learn that they are valued, they can be successful, and that everyone needs different things to succeed in life!
