My Students

I work at a Title 1 school in Philadelphia where 100% of the students receive free lunch. My students are bright, spirited, and eager learners. They have lots of energy and are very creative and investigative. My students love anything that is related to music. This includes singing, dancing, and making music of any kind. Unfortunately, our school does not offer a music class for students due to budget restrictions. My students' learning and creativity could be greatly enhanced with materials that allow them to make music in the classroom.

My Project

The benefits of music classes are endless; they increase engagement, enhance language development, promote creative thinking, and even aide students in developing social emotional skills. Due to the School District of Philadelphia's limited budget, my school does not provide music classes for its students. For this reason, I am aiming to incorporate music into my lessons so that my students are able to experience the benefits that music in education holds. These instruments would provide students with the opportunity to develop an appreciation for music, while they engage in authentic, hands-on musical experiences throughout lessons. I believe that every child deserves the opportunity to learn music as it is a staple in every culture, as well as an outlet for emotional expression. My students and I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to use these instruments to enhance our educational, emotional, and creative well-being.
