My Students

Learning to read music and play a musical instrument opens the world in a new way. My students need the opportunity to explore and create music and to learn the language of musical notation to enrich their lives.

Students are eager to learn about musical notation and how to play a musical instrument.

Students will be integrating knowledge of musical notation to develop skills in playing the recorder. This project will enable the Fifth Grade Class of our school to have an opportunity they have not previously been offered. Most of these students will be acquiring knowledge of reading written music and playing a musical instrument for the very first time.

My Project

I am requesting a recorder for each child that they will keep for their own to expand their exploration and expertise. It is a possession they will surely continue to treasure. Additionally, I requested music books (one class set) that will be shared by three classes this year, then kept at the school to enable classes to enjoy similar experiences in the future. Students will develop good habits of practice and learn the value of a skill that develops over time. They will perform for audiences at our school, giving them a valuable experience and inspiring others.

Music changed my life when I learned to play the flute in third grade through an enrichment program.

These enrichment programs are very rare today. I have the opportunity to give our Fifth Grade Class of 55 students a chance to experience the rich and challenging language of music and the opportunity to explore this medium of expression for their own compositions. This musical infusion will light up many lives.
