My Project

In music therapy, my transition age students are learning ways to use music for their health and well-being for the rest of their lives. They need accessible ways to engage with music melodically and harmonically. The instruments we use need to be sturdy, and we also need to be able to repair and maintain instruments that can get worn out.

The deskbell/handbell sets and cases will allow students with low muscle tone and/or fine motor difficulties to engage with melodic and harmonic instrument play as independently as possible.

The microphones will allow students to hear their voices making music, and will encourage voice use, breathing, and all the health benefits that go along with it (e.g., parasympathetic nervous system response, and improved respiration).

The cymbal felt and repair kit will allow us to maintain our existing ride cymbal, which gives students great access to a big sound with very minimal effort. And, it also allows students with strong fine motor skills to practice skills such as attending and self control.

The ukuleles will give students an accessible and tactile way to engage with harmonic sound, accompany their classmates, and feel the resonance of music.
