This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a new teacher with the Los Angeles Unified School District. I'm teaching music to 6th, 7th and 8th-grade students at a school located in the heart of Los Angeles, Koreatown. Our students are from diverse and economically challenged backgrounds. In spite of our students' daily challenges, they keep an upbeat and positive outlook on life. One of the programs that we offer our students is our music program. Our students absolutely love and take great pride in learning, playing and performing music together. One of our students wrote, "Music is a beautiful way of expressing yourself. It is unique and makes me feel peaceful, calm and it inspires people. It is an amazing way for people to come together".

My Project

The instruments and accessories I am requesting will provide our students with the opportunity to continue to learn music in our program. Our instruments are used everyday in all of our six classes. Our students are often working with instruments that are either broken or leaking. I often need to stop the class to help our students who are playing with an instrument that is suddenly leaking and unable to play the new note we just learned. I can only imagine how much more our students would be able to learn if we had working instruments. Your donations to this project would be a great help to giving our students an opportunity to learn music.
