Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our scholars are exceptional. To know them is to love them! Our scholars come from many areas across New York City with the hopes of bridging the gap between their aspirations and their realities. Our scholars have the vision to steer around their obstacle and the passion to accelerate their progress toward important goals. They have the wisdom to put the brakes on humanity’s most destructive forces and have the capacity to reach for their tools and rebuild the engine of society until it delivers the kind of performance we expect from ourselves.

Our scholars are on a constant quest for knowledge as they make their way to college.

My scholars are committed to academic success and are determined to become the example for their families. Many will be the first person in their family to attend college! Several of our graduates have "made it out of the hood", as they have expressed, because of the tools afforded to them by our school.

Our school is focused on math, science, reading and writing excellence, and our children are missing out on some of the most important skills they can learn—appreciation of the arts!

My Project

Summit scholars need keyboard pianos to enhance their exploration of music. The music program at our school is designed as a comprehensive, standards-based course of study that will allow scholars to become musically literate. Music education helps scholars express and interpret meaning. Through music, scholars increase their awareness of rich and diverse cultures, beliefs, and societies of humankind.

As scholars examine the role of music throughout history and in different cultures, they develop a respect for diversity.

Our course study will provide a comprehensive framework for music. The framework will contain what students should know and be able to do as a result of instruction at each grade level or from a specific course. Content and skills are not limited to particular materials or methodology and can be delivered through multiple approaches and materials.

Music is anything but "extracurricular." Music classes offer many benefits, which make them very indispensable. Performance programs enhance a student's sense of self-esteem as well as their social skills. Scholars become a part of a positive group and organization. Not only do scholars profit socially from music programs, but they also gain academically.

Your donation will allow us to design a full music room with 20 keyboards, music stands and stools for scholars to learn and grow.
