Music Therapy with Dignity

My students need age appropriate instruments and technology that will help them access music as independently as possible. A snare drum, cymbal, iPad stands, and mini speakers will make this dream a reality.

My Students

My students have intellectual disabilities and physical disabilities. Many of my students also face health challenges due to the severity of their disability. Many of my students face struggles such as poverty or homelessness, but they show their resilience every day.

My students are learning job, community, self-advocacy, and leisure skills that will help them live meaningful lives in their communities as independently as possible.

Through music, many of my students are able to access alternate forms of communication and self-expression, building their self-esteem, independence, and community involvement skills.

My Project

I plan to use these materials to help students engage in music improvisation, to create an iPad band with my students, and to promote student wellness through music meditation practices. The snare drum and cymbal will allow my students to explore music improvisation with the piano we already have on site. The mini speakers and auxiliary cables will allow my students with even the smallest fine motor movements to independently engage, create, and perform.

Donations made to this project will allow my students with high physical and communication challenges to access music experiences more independently in exciting, age-appropriate ways.

These music experiences will help to build my students' job skills, independence, resilience, and community involvement skills through self-exploration, connection, and communication.
