My Students

My students have unique learning needs and learn and process new information in many different ways. My students range from 3-5 years old. They have delays in 2 or more areas (cognition, motor, communication, social/emotional, and or functional/adaptive) of their development, however, this does not define who they are or limit their learning capacity. My students are loving, caring, and eager to learn and try new things. I am blessed to be their teacher and couldn’t ask for a better group of learners.

My job, as their early childhood special education teacher, is to provide them with hands on learning experiences to help them reach their potential, to keep them engaged, and to be excited about learning and trying new things.

My Project

A teaching artist will come into our classroom once a week throughout the school year to provide music therapy lessons to our students. Teaching artists are board certified and have experience working with young children with special and unique learning needs. Staff and students will be fully engaged during this special opportunity to learn, create and experience music in different ways.

Donations to this project will help fund Learning Through Music groups for 15 weeks in our classroom.

During Learning Through Music, students will learn academic and art concepts that are embedded into the music activities (instrument play, singing, finger plays, sensory/relaxation, and movement). The students will also have the opportunity to transfer skills practiced and learned during music group to the classroom as the teacher and special education aides will also participate in the learning.
