Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach in an urban, inner-city, at-risk school in New York. My school is a charter school that is striving to meet the needs of a neighborhood faced with tremendous challenges.

Currently, there is no established music program in place. Therefore, I am starting from scratch in every way. In August, there was only a classroom and two computers. Since then, we have gotten recorders and guitars for the students. However, we must sit on the floor in order to play them, because we do not have music stands on which to place our books and music.

With the collapsible music stands, the students will be able to not only use them for our classroom rehearsals and lessons, but it will also allow us to take our instruments and music stands to other locations for public performances.

Please consider helping! Music has the power to change these students forever. This can give them a sense of self-worth, means of expression, enthusiasm, and pride that is often lacking in schools in this situation. Please support our youth of today and our leaders of tomorrow!
