My Students

My students have really struggled with distance learning since the pandemic began in March, 2020 and our school district went to online school only. We returned to a hybrid model in February, 2021, but elementary music classes were still completely virtual.

While teaching music all day in a mask is challenging, it is a joy to be able to teach music in person again.

This school is a 100% poverty school where families struggle to provide basic necessities for their children. We do not have a functioning PTO/PTA group at our school, so it up to the administration and the district music department to find funds for my music classes and their budget is always stretched way too thin. Funds from sources such as DonorsChoose.org help to fill in the funding gaps.

My Project

Since I already have a Cricut machine, I only need the heat transfer vinyl and red t-shirts to make enough for all of my 4th and 5th grade band, strings and choir students for our concerts this year.

I made these shirts for my students before the pandemic and they were beaming with pride at the concert because they looked so good together with their matching outfits.

We are able to do in-person concerts again for the first time since December, 2019 and I would like to celebrate this by making them these matching shirts again.
