Help Ms. Morris

Everyone has a song in their heart to share with the world. Some need encouragement to try different styles until their song is found. I am a teacher of Kindergarten through Fifth grade music. I teach in a low-income area of town. Around ninety percent of our student body receives free or reduced lunches.

Students in my classroom are exposed to a multitude of different styles of music. Many of these wonderful examples come to us in CD format. We currently have a CD player that does not work. I've looked at having it repaired but the funds are not there. I am looking for a quality CD player that can be heard in every corner of my classroom and can be heard when we are singing.

Our school population is very diverse. We have Native American, African American, Hispanic, Asian and Caucasian students from all walk of life. As we study each of the types of music, their faces light up when they relate to the lesson. Being able to hear and sing the music of the different cultures we study encourages them to be more accepting of other cultures and try new things.

Having a quality CD player is vital to the listening portion of music. Your help in finding one is greatly appreciated. Learning about, accepting and having compassion for different ethnic groups can broaden the horizons for the low-income, high-risk students I have in my classes.
