Help Mrs. Tanner

I teach 2nd grade in a low income school. My students come from a wide range of backgrounds, but they are all excited to be at school and eager to learn! Our students may have several obstacles in their little lives, but the dedication of our teachers and the students' willingness to work hard have kept our school at the top of our district's test scores.

I have purchased several Dr. Jean CDs, and the kids love them! We use the ones that we have everyday, and I also let other teachers borrow them for their students. We are often searching for favorite CDs in other classrooms because everyone loves Dr. Jean! The kids love the music and movement, and the teachers love that the combination of music and movement helps our students be more successful in their learning.

These new CDs will be a welcome addition to our classroom and the other classes that we share them with. These CDs will provide opportunities for students to get up and move around, waking their brains up and getting them energized to learn more. Several of the songs teach specific concepts, and anything put to music is more effective for students to retain. We not only use them as part of daily lessons, but they are a lifesaver on rainy days when we can't go outside. The students seem to forget about the dreary weather when they are singing and dancing to Dr. Jean! Then, they go back to the classroom ready to learn! Music enhances learning. Research shows our brains need movement to function. Music and movement will continue to help our students achieve academic success.

You will make it possible for the students at our school to learn through music and movement. When teaching practices such as these are utilized in classrooms, the students want to be at school because it is a fun place to be. Our ultimate goal is for students to learn to be productive citizens. This goal can not be achieved unless students attend school everyday and are taught using the most effective methods. The majority of our learners are kinesthetic which means they learn by doing. Music and movement not only meet the needs of these learners by providing them movement, but they also create visuals in the dance moves for our visual learners, and provide music for our auditory learners. In addition, they provide opportunities to laugh and have fun with our students. Happy kids learn better. Please help us bring the laughter, music, and movement to our classrooms so that our students can succeed as learners!
