My Project

Our school has the highest refugee population in the nation. Our students come to school to learn, build connections, and be happy. They are kind, safe, productive, and focused on their future.

Support my 5th grade newcomer students in having fitness equipment to tie together music, movement, and English language learning.

A diverse curriculum that includes movement and music will support my newcomer 5th grade students by offering new ways for them to exercise, express themselves, and learn English hands-on. These jump ropes and hula hoops will help meet the needs of my newcomer students. They will be used in my classroom weekly with music during PE, while incorporating ELD. These activities will support newcomers in learning positional vocabulary (right, left, under, over, up, down, etc.) while exercising and having fun. The benefits of having music and movement in the classroom are endless!
