Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

All students want the ability to create original music. For some students, there may be more barriers. Many of my students with disabilities need different instruments or ways to make music than other students. These adaptive instruments would allow these students to create music and participate.

Every student wants to make music, they just need to have the right instruments.

The floor pianos will allow students who may not be able to sit during circle time to walk across them and participate. Other students may like the whole body movements they require rather than a traditional piano requiring just finger and hand movements. The large egg shakers are easier to handle than normal sized egg shakers. They are also less of a choking hazard for students with oral fixations. Light up rhythm sticks allow students to physically see when they are creating the music. Finger cymbals are a wearable instrument that are a reasonable volume and can be played in multiple ways. Ocean drums are not only fun to play and hear, but they can be pleasing to students with sensory sensitivities. All of these instruments would allow more students to find the joy that music creating can have.
