Help me give my students opportunity to experience the vibrant musical culture of New York City. By supporting one additional trip you will help scholarship deserving junior or senior band members.

A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
I have the opportunity each day to teach music to a wonderful, exciting, compassionate, curious, and diverse group of young musicians. Though, as with many urban high schools, the financial need of many of my students exceeds their ability to afford extra educational experiences and adventures, like this trip.
My students are very excited to perform, hear some fantastic concerts, and visit sites that highlight the incredible diversity of New York City.
Music brings people together and can help to bridge many of the cultural divides we see in our society today. We are looking forward to the fun, excitement, and learning on our Tartan Band Trip 2019!
My Project
The High School Band Trip - 2019 focuses on the extensive musical culture of New York City and experiences centered around diversity, human migration, and history!
Our musical experiences include an exchange concert/clinic with a New York City area high school band, and a clinic with one of the conductors of the Broadway show we are going to see when in town.
In addition to our Broadway experience, the band will be attending two concerts at Carnegie Hall - The Philadelphia Orchestra on March 7, and Mandolin Virtuoso, Chris Thile, as part of the yearlong citywide Migrations Festival, on March 8.
Our additional experiences are focused on immigration, human migration, cultural history and science. We will be visiting the Tenement Museum which brings the 19th century immigrant experience to life, a tour of the Apollo Theater and historical tour of Harlem, the Statue of Liberty and the Immigration Museum on Ellis Island, a tour of the 9/11 Memorial and Museum, and a presentation at the Hayden Planetarium.
My students will have performance clinics with an outstanding high school band director and professional Broadway conductor, opportunities to broaden their musical background while attending a very diverse set of concert performances, and have the opportunity to develop empathy and understanding around issues of human migration and immigration to the United States.
