Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The materials included in my project will provide my students with the opportunity to experience making music in a variety of settings. The second rug will allow enough space for safe movement in the younger grades, while drumsticks and practice pads will allow all students to begin performing basic rhythms, and eventually create their own. The guitars and keyboard stands will be used daily, as we allow all students to experience percussion ensembles, a traditional concert band, and a modern band. Power supply and associated electronics will support the keyboardists, while guitar strings and a guitar rack will ensure each guitar has its own place in the classroom, along with the necessary equipment for repairs. Binders will be provided to my students to organize their music and/or lyrics, and the books will provide reading material for younger grades to begin exploring basic musical concepts, elements, and history.

With the resources from this project, I will start a music program that enables students to engage with music in a variety of ways, specifically by performing, creating, responding, listening, and connecting to music.

I hope to lead my students in performing at their first school concert and for them to able to experience the joy of sharing music with others.

My students come from a variety of backgrounds, all of which I hope to be able to connect to in some way through our music studies and performances. My wish is for them to be able to engage in musical expression and creation in a purposeful and meaningful way, to help them grow as musicians as well as individuals.
