Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

A typical day in my class is a day filled with a variety of performing groups. The students have a passion for music and so does their teacher. Students are engaged in the music and are passionate about their musicianship and quality of their playing.

My students are high school 9th - 12th grade.

They come from a school where 100% of the population qualifies for free/reduced lunch. Most students in the music department have a 12 hour day at school every day. Our concert band starts at 6:45 am every day and our after school practice ends at 6:00 pm every day. The students at this school simply work harder than everybody else and their dedication to their school, and more importantly to each other, is unmatched. My students might have struggles at home but their work ethic is an inspiration for me as their teacher. Put simply they are the best kids around.

My Project

The materials we are requesting will go along way to help our percussion section. We have cymbal stands that don't work properly. Also, having cymbal stands will help to showcase our large percussion section. In addition to using these stands for concert band they will also be used for marching band and drumlin. Needless to say they will be used by a large group of students. The repair kit is something that I can use to be able to fix minor issues in order to save the department in having to send out our minor repair issues. The snare drum is also a desperate need for us. Our current snare drum is damaged and doesn't produce the sound it should. It would go along way to improving the overall quality of the sound of our group. The donations to this project will help to improve the overall quality of instruction in my classroom. Having equipment that works is essential to attaining a high level of instruction.

The music department performs for 40 events in the school year.

The department provides many events for the community and advocates for music in the schools. These donations will go a long way to contributing to our goal of music advocacy.
