My Students

My students love learning and enjoy new experiences. In our Title 1 school, my students have very diverse backgrounds. Despite their socio-economic hardship, my students are eager to rise to the challenges. They especially enjoy coming to music when they are looking forward to instruments we play and songs we sing and dance to.

My culturally diverse students work together as one ensemble, supporting each other and being responsible for their parts and learning.

They care about collaborating to help as an ensemble.

Our school is in southwestern Florida. It is a beautiful place to learn, perform, and grow as little musicians. Through grants, my class can obtain more instruments and explore new ways of creating and playing music. We want to have more ways of playing music and grow as musicians.

My Project

Planning ahead for next year, I plan to do a unit on folk instruments from around the world. It is important that my students are introduced to a variety of instruments, styles and traditions not only from our culture, but from cultures around the world. The majority of the time, the only way to introduce these types of instruments and music is by playing videos.

I hope to introduce a handful of folk instruments first hand with this project.

I have chosen a variety of folk instruments from around the world to play in my classroom for my students. This way they can really see the instrument for themselves, touch it, feel the vibrations they make and hear what the instrument sounds like live and in person instead of only seeing and hearing videos.
