Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
The moment when a smile comes across a child's face, and for the first time she thinks, "I sound great!" is a magical experience. This is the goal every day in music class and it sets the basis for a creative life.
Our school brings together students from a variety of backgrounds to learn both Spanish and English.
We walk the talk of multiculturalism by learning each others' languages and studying each others' backgrounds. Our children live in a high-needs community, and they give back to improve it: kids engage in service projects and study their local community. Our music program is new, and with your support and with these new instruments, we can make music a part of this growing community.
My Project
We will use these ukuleles, recorders, and percussion instruments every day to create magical moments. Students will learn how to play ukuleles, and use them in music and drama performances at the school. With the recorders in music class, students will enter the world of woodwinds, opening up the possibility of playing in orchestra and band in middle school. With percussion instruments, even the youngest student in transitional kinder will be able to experience the beauty of playing rhythms together as a class. Students will use all these materials to create beautiful performances, allowing our school to truly educate the whole child. Each music class will be its own experience, but students will also give performances at assemblies and the local senior center to engage the wider community in the experience of music.
Music is a right!
All students are creative, and deserve the ability to let that creativity flourish in all its elemental beauty. These instruments will help students experience the magic of music and playing together. Kids will engage their local community in the performance of their music, and understand that music is not just sound: it is participation, inclusion, teamwork, community, and creativity. Music empowers!
