Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach music to children who are on the autism spectrum in New York. The children range in age from pre-k to upper elementary.

We have been working on rhythm and movement and the children would benefit greatly from adding these rhythm materials to our activities.

Our children need these rhythm materials to assist them with their fine and gross motor skills, as well as to provide another musical experience such as playing instruments. The materials I am asking for are "little hands" music makers, "little hands" rhythm band set, jingle belts, hand drums, boomwhackers, rainsticks, and scarves. These instruments are kid-friendly in color and size and would be great to introduce into our lessons and in our school shows. Through the use of these materials, the children will be able to explore music in a variety of ways, including movement and through the use of these hands-on instruments. Our first project with the use of these new materials will be to use the instruments to identify and maintain a steady beat while listening to music. Another activity we will take part in is moving with the scarves to music. The children will be able to identify direction (up, down)while using the scarves as they move to the rhythm of the music. These are just a few of the wonderful activities that we will be able to do with your help :)

You will make it possible for my students to build their music skills, as well as address many other goals, such as improving their motor skills. Your help will make a difference in the lives of these children because they will be able to experience music through a different medium, and will be able to use these materials in our school shows and in the classroom for many years to come. I hope that I will be able to bring these wonderful materials to our children. With your help and generosity, it can be done! Thank you in advance for everything!
