My Project

Play-based learning is best practice for early childhood. Adding textures and melodic instruments, such as the keyboard, ukulele, xylophone, and glockenspiels, to our music space will expand upon typical sounds we might hear and enhance the quality of the music learning.

A variety of shapes, size, sounds, colors, and textures will provide multiple opportunities for students to access and engage in student-led music making experiences, with the goal of supporting growth and lifelong learning!

Access to a quality and supportive sensory environment has emerged as a primary need for my preschoolers, and those with disabilities, post-pandemic. Students learn best when their emotions are regulated and the environment is designed to meet them where they are. The materials in this project strive to meet this need by accommodating all children, both sensory-seekers and sensory-avoiders, while providing rich and robust music making opportunities!

A sensory "music box" is filled with small rhythm instruments of various sounds/shapes/textures and used for instrument exploration, improvisation, and creation; the kinetic sand will extend this experience by adding a new layer of texture. The bubbles will provide another visual element to support some of our movement experiences. Music can be purchased using the gift card, and the microphones will motivate my kids to use their voice and sing along! Outdoor music making opportunities are possible with the bluetooth speaker, expanding the sensory experience even further!
