Music Education for Preschoolers

My students need a strong music curriculum that is embedded throughout the school day, as music can be a fun and engaging way to reinforce skills and concepts in reading, writing, mathematics, physical education and more!

My Students

We have a new preschool program in its second year on my campus and still need certain essential materials to maintain a quality program.

This inclusive preschool program is called ETK/PCC, which stands for Expanded Transitional Kindergarten/Preschool Collaborative Classroom.

It includes eight students with disabilities and sixteen students without disabilities. This is an innovative preschool model where students with special needs learn, play, and grow alongside their typically-developing peers. Research has shown time and time again that these inclusive classrooms are beneficial to both students with and without disabilities, while building a culture of compassion, acceptance, and friendships without boundaries.

We are a Title l school, a term that many may have heard about but may not fully understand. Title l is the nation's oldest and largest federally funded program that provides funds to at-risk students living at or near poverty. Title l aims to bridge the gap between low-income students and others students. While my school has benefitted from Title l funds, many other needs go unmet, and we need additional support.

My Project

My goal is to develop an effective music curriculum for preschoolers. To this end, we would like to have access to a classroom guitar, along with guitar accessory essentials (e.g., capo, strings, tuner), a songbook of children's songs, and an effective teaching guide.

Research has shown that music education enhances the development of children's brains in several areas, including language development, memory skills, reading and math skills, social skills, and much more.

Additionally, music is simply FUN and will go a long way in helping to keep children engaged in lessons and excited about coming to school. They will spend a good part of the day learning literacy, math, and social skills through sing-alongs, dancing/movement, and playing instruments.
