This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work at a Title I school with over 90% of students coming from families who qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. Opportunities to work with the newest technology are few and far between. I have made it my goal over the last few years to bring nothing but the best into my classroom so that my students have the opportunity to make music the way it was meant to be made - with fun and creativity!

Music helps our students thrive in today's society and we want to allow them to be exposed to music playing.

When given these opportunities, I have seen my students blossom in a way I have never seen before, and I want to continue to try and provide them with different ways to make their musical projects soar to new heights.

My Project

We have a wonderful group of students at our school. There is so much talent and creativity just waiting to be set free! These students do fantastic work with our music program and often stay after school to rehearse and create beautiful music.

Our program provides a wonderful opportunity for us to develop SEL skills such as encouraging our performers to set their particular goals, coming up with solutions to individual and group errors/obstacles, navigating performance anxiety, understanding the power of music for social change and since drumming is a physical response to emotion the requested drum pads and drumsticks will be especially helpful in creating a playful, engaging and emotional music experience.

With these drums my music program students will be able to play to the beat, and compose their own rhythms, as a response to their emotions while reducing tension, anxiety and stress as they create music together.

The drum pads, drumsticks as well as the guitar strings will serve a wide range of students in our school's music program and prepare them to be lifelong, well rounded music lovers. The impact of these materials will be vital in developing happy and mentally healthy musicians. Music is a great a way to express feelings of joy, sadness and/or frustration in a positive manner and the materials requested will help us attain these. Our group meets twice a week learning to play drums, electric guitar, bass, synthesizers and more. Our hard work will culminate with a spring concert where the students get to showcase their hard work and dedication. Additionally, we would love to provide some snacks to the students staying after school. Together the requested items will make a huge impact on our students' physical, mental, social and emotional wellness!
