My students are very energetic and creative children who love to learn music with hands-on experiences. They work very hard and love working with instruments in music.
It doesn't matter if they are in kindergarten or fourth grade, they love to learn music through exciting and hands-on opportunities.
These opportunities are vital to their learning. They also thrive in a classroom that is made for them to be safe while making music. They love learning and performing with many different materials.
My 550 students come from many cultures and backgrounds. Most of them do what they can with what they have and all students are on the free lunch program. Our school is located in the northern part of the city and many of our students walk or ride the bus to get here. Our school also has a food pantry to help families during the week and many of our students benefit from that. It is very important to give these students the best possible learning environment and for students that do not have very much, it means a lot to them to come into our loving and safe school to have everything they need to be successful.
My Project
Over this summer, I was moved to a different classroom that has a thin metal track on the floor across the center of the room for the removed room divider. My students and I are constantly moving and making music. This music rug will give us new learning opportunities as well as provide extra safety to my students in our new space. It will also provide them their on spot on the floor when we participate in floor activities. Thanks so much for supporting my music classroom and for ensuring that my students will have a great learning environment! This is a definite need for the school year!
