My Students

What was your favorite subject in school? Help bring music back to the classroom!

My students are in an inner-city middle school in NYC.

They have special needs and remain in the same classroom most of the day. They need an opportunity to be creative. Music will bring color to their lives and allow them to express themselves more openly.

My Project

I will use music to increase my students' communication and rhythm. Social skills will be enhanced by promoting sharing, following directions, eye contact and cooperative play. These skills will be learned through patterns, rhythms, and melodies on the drum sets and xylopipes.

Music is linked to motivation and can spark a child's interest in learning.

A student who is interested and attentive when learning is more likely to retain the information over time. My students will benefit from having a musical outlet. For those with very low communication skills, they will be able to express themselves through rhythm and music.
