My Students

I teach middle school band to many creative, curious, and resilient students. Our school is located on the Southside of Richmond and serves over 500 students. Many of them are beginning and intermediate level students learning to read, write, and play music for the first time. As a band, they work together to help and encourage each other as they learn and grow.

My students are eager and excited to explore and learn how to play musical instruments.

My district is set to begin virtual learning at the beginning of September. Students enrolled in a band course will be allowed to check out a school instrument of their choice to participate in a virtual band class.

My 7th and 8th Grade students have successfully played a winter concert and were preparing for a spring concert before school closures. I am excited to welcome a new class of 6th graders that I know will be equally committed and join in the success of the program started last year.

My Project

These books will help students learn to play their instruments at home. In a pre-COVID19 world, students could share a class set of books. However, as my district moves to virtual learning, every student will need to have their own book at home to keep up with what we will be doing in class.

Your donation to this project will help guarantee that not only will every student who wants an instrument gets one, but that they will have a matching book to use at home with it.

In addition, when we are able to safely return to school, this project will benefit countless students with a yearly book that they can use at school and at home.
