In our classrooms, we try everything we can to help our kids gain literacy skills sufficient enough to prepare them for the Kindergarten year. Yes, we have a high poverty level, but we also have smart kids who have shown they CAN excel when given the proper foundation. We try to develop a rich literacy foundation and for young learners,and that includes music and songs. LISTENING is a crucial part of learning how to read and write. Young children respond to singing naturally. They learn the sound of language and they increase vocabulary, meaning and context. There is a wonderful set of CDs that I am requesting as an important part of my reading/writing/LISTENING component. It contains stories, literacy songs and integrated theme songs that build ideas, comprehension and help kids "play with language". If you support the literacy work we can accomplish in an early childhood setting, then you know how powerful listening skills can be in this process. Please consider funding my request for these listening/music CD resources. Your sponsorship is greatly appreciated for the literacy education of our youngest learners!
