This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Remember how excited you were to take music in elementary school? The feeling that you were creating something magical and meaningful ... that's what I strive to make my students feel in my music classroom every single day. I want them to love music, in all aspects and to truly enjoy it.

My students are amazing young ladies and gentlemen ... and I teach 1000 of them!!!

They come from all backgrounds, from different parts of the world, with different economic resources. Our elementary school includes kindergarten through grade five and it's not always easy keeping them engaged, enriched and entertained! This will be my fourth year as music teacher and I love every minute of it. I want to continue challenging them and teaching them new and exciting things and I feel like connecting them to outside worlds and cultures would be a fantastic gateway to doing just that! In addition, many of my students (over half) are special needs and hands on activities, in addition to movement through music, would be a fantastic addition to their classroom routines.

My Project

I am asking for instruments from around the world that my students can observe & play, a CD with traditional songs from around the world as well as cards to help us move to that music. I want them to gain an appreciation for other cultures, to connect with traditions that they may not be used to (or even heard of!!!) I want them to share music from their culture - songs, dances and instruments. Unfortunately, I find that in today's technological world, many of the students don't really have a "musical background." They are unfamiliar with the customs and traditions from their own countries, let alone others from around the world. When I introduce a different genre of music they have never heard of they are utterly fascinated! With the proper resources, I can really play on their imagination and let them explore different songs, dances and instruments from all around the world. We can learn different patterns and rhythms as well as songs to sing, dance and play to.

Your donations will help improve my classroom by giving my students the hands on materials they need to really see and play music from around the world.

These instruments will really help flourish my students imaginations and maybe even inspire them to create their own songs and beats. I can't wait to get started!!!
