Music and Sensory Exploration for Students with Disabilities

Help me give my students new sensory items and better sound! My students have significant sensory needs. The music classroom becomes a therapeutic place where we can relax our brains and come back to baseline with beautiful music.

My Project

My students are ages 14-22 with developmental, intellectual and/or multiple disabilities. My students are funny, curious, and interested in and engaged by music and sensory play. Many of my students struggle with regulating their emotions. This project will provide my students with the means to have a calm space where they can regulate their emotions and improve their mood and their day in general. The guitar and the pickups will be used to play music and sing with the students. The wireless capabilities will allow me to get close to students so they can touch the guitar strings from their seats or wheelchairs. The wireless connection will allow the guitar to be amplified. This will allow several Deaf and hard-of-hearing students to touch both the guitar and a speaker to feel the vibrations. The sensory items give my students something to focus on and help regulate their mood. Thank you for considering funding our project!
