My goal for this project is to have a Pocket Translator available at school for Non-English speaking students when they first arrive in the United States. We often get newcomers throughout the school year from all over the World that do not speak any English. Having a device that can help the student communicate might help to ease their anxieties and give them a way to communicate their needs, along with their teachers. Communication is very important, especially with younger children and this device can help make that easier. Coming to a new country, new school, and new language is scary for people of all ages, let alone, elementary-aged children. We do our best to use Google Translate or other students that speak the same language but having a device that we can use as soon as they arrive can help to make the students feel more comfortable.
