This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a bilingual teacher. My work is to help develop written skills, vocabulary skills for english language learners in middle school and high school. The school community where I work has a growing population of bilingual students. Every year we are getting new students with very low English proficiency. My goal this year is to help those students in the beginning phase to advance and acquire new vocabulary to help them achieve their academic goals. Last year I had two new students that came from the Caribbean, and they struggle to learn content vocabulary. We meet for 30 minutes in a little office, not in a classroom. I hope to have materials that are rich for these students this new academic year. I want to have a nice, comforting, and learning environment for them. The rolling cart will allow me to carry all the material around the school since I don't have a classroom for just ENL students. I will be doing push in, to provide the services. The different leveled books will allow my students to read and engage according to their english proficiency in a fun and productive way. Many of the books in the list are directed to elementary school kids but English learners can benefit from them as well. I am planning on creating a small library with a rug, a cozy space, where students can practice listening, writing, and reading English. My students are very special, they have different backgrounds an experiences but one commonality, they all wish to learn and succeed.
