This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students attend a dual language school in Washington, D.C. We are a second grade class with children from all different cultural backgrounds. They are a great group of kids! They are very enthusiastic, have loads of energy and have kind, caring hearts.

Like typical second graders, they love playing outside, sports, dance, arts and we pride ourselves in creating a love for reading and writing from a very young age.

Therefore, our students need new and high-interest books to keep them engaged. They are excited about this new school year!

My Project

Since we are a dual language school, we must provide children with a multitude of high interest, rich, bilingual texts that are expensive and hard to find.

We focus on instilling a love for reading and writing which is hard to do without the proper resources.

Currently, our library is lacking books in Spanish and children are not able to have books that interest them. These books and furniture will be used to create an inviting and warm library corner children will be eager to go to. The bouncy bands and flexible seating will be used for the library corner as well, but for our sped children who might need it.

Please help me create an inviting and engaging multiculturally rich library for my second graders!
