Today's population is a diverse world of wonders. We constantly hear others speaking in other languages and celebrating different holidays. My students have these wonderfully diverse peers right next to them in class and truly are not aware or understand their cultures.
My students come from a title 1 school and many budget cuts in the school system have continued to occur.
This issue has not allowed for a more hands on learning in the classroom. My students are the types of learners that need that hands on and creative learning in class. The ever growing population at my school has become more and more diverse in ethnicity's. My students are in need of learning how to except differences and understand the backgrounds of others. Through these materials my students will not only be given the opportunity to learn in their way, but will have the opportunity to learn to except their peers differences.
My Project
Through the arts with glue, clay, colored pencils, crayons, feathers and other materials. The students will be able to create rain sticks and mold people of different abilities. My students will be able to create drawings about the different cultures they learn about. Then they will be able to share with others in the school by hanging their work in the hallways for all to see. My students will be able to create masks and other fine works of art that represent different backgrounds in the class. The voice of expression through art will shine through these creations with your support.
This project is not only important to my students, but it's important to me to help them learn acceptance of others.
In today's society and at my school feeling excepted is widely important to the success and confidence to their future. Without being open minded to others, we create bullies and unsuccessful members to our society. Breaking down these barriers are equally if not more important to teach because they are also our future.
