My Students

Every child cherishes the arts and crafts projects that they create in school. They can bring them home and display them with pride. They can learn about different cultures by studying different crafts from around the world. Every holiday has a related craft and every book, every poem can be recreated.

My students are K-5 English Language Learners.

They are children of hard working new immigrants. Our school is Title I, meaning there are a high percentage of low income families. They come from homes where languages other than English are spoken. Many come to school with little or no English. These children especially appreciate the arts. They have little access to creative materials at home. Working with Arts and Crafts allows them to communicate what they are thinking, feeling and learning about. They can visually represent a story or an emotion that they cannot communicate with words yet. They can feel a sense of accomplishment when they have a finished piece that they can show their friends and families.

My Project

I am requesting Arts and Crafts materials for a variety of classroom projects. The materials range from basics such as crayons to beads, mosaics kits, multicultural project kits like African mask making, beeswax candle making, and block print making.

Teachers and parents know how much kids love to be creative.

They love experimenting with different mediums. They love making projects, sculpting clay and making gifts and decorations to bring home. They can be proud of the projects they make in class and are excited to have the opportunity to work with unique materials. With the budget cuts in our schools this year, materials are scarce and unfortunately art materials are all too often considered a luxury instead of a necessity.
