My Students

Our school has around one hundred English language learners in grades kindergarten through fifth, representing many diverse backgrounds. We have native Mandarin, Cantonese, Spanish, Russsian, Albanian, Gujarati, Arabic, Polish, Belarusian, and Nepalese speakers. These students' English Proficiency levels range from newcomers including many recent immigrants, to those with a good grasp of Basic Interpersonal communication skills who are working towards cognitive academic language proficiency. My students are engaged each day in listening, speaking, reading and writing activities to achieve English language proficiency while also working towards grade level standards.

My Project

My students will be participating in a Project Based Learning activity centered around the text, Foods From Around the World, by Judy Braus. As a culminating activity students will present orally, information about their country, culture and foods that are special to them. We will utilize the materials purchased to print and laminate materials to be presented. Students will be able to print color pictures of their countries' flag and foods. Additionally, they will strengthen oral language skills using learning centers created from Teachers Pay Teachers, printed in color and laminated for longevity. My students look forward to being able to share aspects of their culture in a fun and engaging way.
