My Students

My third grade students are eager to learn. They are curious, creative, and have great imaginations even though we are a Title I school in a high poverty neighborhood.

Most of my students live in public housing which is why I need your help to help my students thrive over this virtual time due to Covid-19.

Their neighborhoods are rough and school is a place for them to be safe. My class is mostly African American children who face a lot of challenges.

My job, as a teacher, is to help my students overcome these challenges and become the amazing adults I know they can become.

My Project

Thanks to your help, we have been building a multicultural library. I now want to help my students see how similar kids are all around the world. Included in this list are books that feature girls as heroes not as helpless princesses.

These fairy tales books will delight my students and expand their world, we will be looking at fairy tales from Korea, China, Indonesia, and many more places.

As we read, we will compare them to the stories we have already read and look for the similarities and differences. We will also be examining some of these fairy tales by reading books that portray a classic story from another person's view point.

As always I want to thank all of you who are helping us build this library. The power of a book is amazing in that the story can take you anywhere and stay with you long after you are finished reading. I want my students to experience this joy.
