Multicultural Art Supplies for Special Education Classroom in Flushing, Queens

My Students

My self-contained classroom is made up of learners with disabilities in third and fourth grade. Our students need visuals, interactive methods of teaching, and small group support and technology to be successful.

My students are creative, animated, and, above all, love learning.

They show an eagerness and excitement for acquiring new skills and have grown in countless ways, both academically and socially. I've been lucky enough to see that students have gained confidence and are ready to take on new challenges and risks thanks to the support of our donors!

Our Title I New York City public school is in Queens. More than half of our students are classified as ENL learners and they receive services such as occupational therapy, speech therapy, and counseling.

My Project

There are 12 students in my self-contained Special Education classroom. Students will have the opportunity to create paintings and drawings using inspiration from these artists they've read, written, and spoken about in class and at home. This activity will inspire my students and give them access to materials they might not otherwise have. The arts are also a great way for my students to express themselves, which is particularly important during these difficult times.

By providing these diverse art materials, learning can be engaging, interactive, and creative.

Having markers, paint, and paper that represents themselves is invaluable and allows students to create pieces that really look like them. As often as possible, I try to incorporate art to harness the attention and excitement of my students. I ensure all students can be successful and with your donation to provide these materials, you are ensuring that, too!

Access to materials will be challenging this year considering the school's funding has been cut drastically. New York City Public School teachers are NOT receiving any money for classroom resources and supplies this coming school year. Now more than ever, we need additional resources to support our students. Please help my vision become a reality by donating to this project. Your generosity means the world to us!
