Multi-Sensory Tools for Language and Literacy

Help me give my students sensory books. My kindergartener students with autism benefit from a multi-sensory approach to language and literacy. Books that have pictures with different textures are highly motivating and will help my students explore literature.

My Project

The kindergarten students in my class are all diagnosed with autism. Although some of my students communicate verbally, others use sign language, picture supports, or communication devices. All of my students have learning challenges and difficulty communicating and using spontaneous social language. My enthusiastic young learners are all highly motivated during activities involving literature.

My students need immersive multi-sensory experiences to facilitate their language and literacy skills.

They need frequent opportunities to listen to the stories, practice the words, and touch and hold the manipulatives in order to develop their language and vocabulary. This brings the books to life while focusing on each student's learning style. Please help me continue to support their language and literacy skills by providing book bins and these sensory touch-and-feel books.
